We are very lucky to have in our area the Welsh Dee river.  Probably one of the best Grayling rivers in the country, from experience we’d say the average Grayling in this river is 1-1.5lb with specimens of 4lb being seen every winter, these truely are a fantastic fish and one of this size is a fish of a lifetime, but not impossible on this river.

As the Grayling season runs right through the winter months this makes them the ideal quarry to keep you entertained after the trout and Salmon fishing is over.  Not only are they one of the most beautiful fish, they are certainly a superb fighting fish, pound for pound maybe one of the best.  They are certainly willing to take a fly and will keep you on your toes with fly changes, as they feed at all levels in the water.  The most popular methods depending on conditions, are either hard on the bottom with tungsten grub patterns or the total opposite, small dries on the top, so they always keep you guessing!!

There are quite a few day tickets available on local stretches, we have just picked out a few that we think are the best and some we have fished ourselves.  Prices vary from £5-20 a day, we do try to keep up to date with these outlets, but please check the arrangments are still the same before you travel out of your way.

If this is something you are yet to try, don’t let another winter pass by without giving it a go

There is nothing quite like going out Grayling fishing on a clear, crisp winters day.  Frost on the ground, mist on the river, blue skys and wet, cold hands…but who cares!
